The Massachusetts Health Insurance Survey (MHIS) collects information on health insurance coverage, health care access and use, and health care affordability for Massachusetts residents.
It is sponsored by the Center for Health Information and Analysis (CHIA), an agency of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
You can see key findings from the 2019 Massachusetts Health Insurance Survey in this infographic.
It is important for the MHIS to represent all residents of Massachusetts. Since we cannot interview the entire population of Massachusetts, we scientifically selected a sample from it to be part of the survey. Your response represents not just you, but many other households in Massachusetts like yours. Your participation helps us ensure that MHIS data are valid and complete.
This survey should be completed by an adult in your household age 18 or older who can answer questions about healthcare for everyone in the household.
The survey can be completed in one of two ways:
1. Online, by accessing the survey here
2. By telephone with a professional interviewer by calling 844-413-2972.
The MHIS is a tool used by CHIA, legislators, policymakers, employers, insurers and other stakeholders to track and monitor the experiences of Massachusetts residents in obtaining both timely and affordable health care.
You can see results, reports, and data from the 2019 MHIS on the CHIA website at https://www.chiamass.gov/massachusetts-health-insurance-survey/
Your address or telephone number was randomly selected from a list of addresses and phone numbers in Massachusetts.
Yes. It is very important to us to protect your privacy.
Your answers will be combined with answers from other people to make group statistics. When we release the results of the survey nothing will be included that would identify you or your household.
If you have any questions that were not answered in the FAQs, feel free to contact us.
